A modern day catch phrase, baby boomers, represents  a market of individuals who were born just after the Second World War.  Some have broadly outlined the years as 1946 to 1964.  When American troops returned home in victory after  the war,  there was a an unprecedented explosion in the birthrate. They were a proud and independent group, who passed this spirit on to their children.

Boomers represent the fastest growing  group of consumers.  Within the next decade the number of people age 60 and older will reach 1 billion.  With life expectancy also growing, there is and will be certain demands on the market place.

Aging with Dignity

One such area is that of aging with dignity.  Certain physical and mental changes take place as we age.  We tend to slow down.  We can't get around like we once could.

Even simple tasks like opening a door, standing for any length of time, or remembering a sequence of steps, become difficult.  When you add to that, certain ailments and illnesses that come with aging such as arthritis, diabetes, and dementia, even taking a bath becomes a real  burden.  Unfortunately, many seniors require assistance in bathing.  Not only getting into and out of a bathtub, but with the actual bathing itself.

The Walk In Bathtub

That loss of dignity is disheartening for our senior population.
One new innovation in the market place that has brought back independence and dignity for our seniors is the Walk In Bathtub. It typically will replace the traditional bathtub and fits in the same location. This free standing bathtub comes with a seat and a door.  The tub can be entered easily and once seated, one can close the door  and lock it.   The rubber seal around the door  makes it  water tight, and the tub can then be filled with water.  In most cases the water will rise and cover the back for a relaxing soak.  The hand held shower can then be used for rinsing.

Hydrotherapy can Help

Other features that can be added to the walk in tub are hydrotherapy jets, whirlpool  jets and the inline heater.  This enables one to enjoy water therapy while bathing.  The heater maintains the temperature so that the water doesn't cool prematurely.

Walk in Tubs come in a number of different sizes to fit the customer's needs.  The tubs should come with all the plumbing fixtures: faucet, controls, drain with overflow protector,
hand held shower sprayer, interior grab bar, and jetted systems if needed.

This new innovation can go a long way in creating a feeling of independence for our senior population, allowing them to do things for themselves.  Restoring a sense of dignity will allow them to have peace of mind and a sense of accomplishment in their golden years.
